Chris Fleming scored the game-winning goal for his 200
th career point as the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team clinched a MAC Freedom post-season berth with an 8-6 come-from-behind win at King's, Wednesday evening.
Paul Hanrahan had three goals and an assist and
Nick Torzilli added three assists.
Fleming and
Brandon Winslow both had a goal and an assist while
Patrick Kellish,
James Wood and
Patrick Luzzi all added goals.
Fleming joins Kellish and Sean Collins as the only players in school history to reach 200 career points.
John Tierney had three caused turnovers and
Antonio Whyte made 13 saves in goal.
The Cougars improved to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in the MAC Freedom to lock up the second seed in next week's championships.
King's took an early lead, but Luzzi responded to pull the Cougars even less than three minutes into the game.
King's scored off the opening face-off of the second quarter and Wood tied it, 2-2, with 9:03 to go in the second quarter.
The Monarchs went back in front less than a minute later and Hanrahan got it back for MU with 4:26 left in the first half.
King's scored in the in the final minute of the quarter to take a 4-3 halftime lead and scored the only goal of the third quarter go up, 5-3.
The Cougars scored three straight goals to open fourth quarter and take their first lead of the night.
Kellish scored in the opening minute and Winslow tied it a minute later off a feed from Fleming.
Hanrahan put MU in front for the first time, 6-5, with 11:20 to play, but the Monarchs answered with a man-up goal two minutes later.
Fleming gave the Cougars the lead for good with just 2:28 to play and Hanrahan added an insurance goal 20 seconds later.
Misericordia will host FDU-Florham for Senior Appreciation Day in their regular season finale, Saturday at 1:00.
