The Misericordia University baseball team wrapped up its MAC Freedom schedule with an 8-5 win at FDU-Florham, Sunday.

Steve Weisensee had three hits and three RBI and Parker Abate, Tyler Holzapfel, Sean Lyons and Conor Smith all had two hits.

Tom Jacob worked five innings to get the win while Zach Mason tossed three innings of relief before Kyle Melahn came on to get his sixth save, the second-most in a season in school history.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

Kenny Jarema reached on an error to open the game and moved up on Abate's sacrifice bunt.  Holzapfel doubled to right field to drive in a run and Weisensee singled with two outs to make it 2-0.

MU added four runs in the fifth.  Adam Concadoro drew a lead-off walk and went to third on Abate's one-out infield single.  Holzapfel was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Weisensee singled with two outs to drive in a pair of runs.  Lyons followed with a two-run double to right center for a 6-0 lead.

After FDU answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh.

Santo Guinta singled to center to open the inning and moved to third when Smith reached on a two-out error.  Smith stole second and Guinta came home on an error on the play.  Boylan followed with a single through the left side to make it 8-4.

The Devils got one back in the eighth, but Melahn pitched a scoreless ninth to close the game.
