The Misericordia baseball team fell to Gwynedd Mercy University, 10-5, in non-conference action Monday afternoon at Tambur Field.
In a game that saw seven errors and three comebacks, the Griffins prevailed by putting up five runs in the final two innings to improve to 9-9 as Misericordia falls to 17-7.
Dalton Emerich and Shane Hughes each went 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Cougars.
Jake Kurtz started the game on the mound for MU and threw five innings, striking out three while allowing two runs.
The Griffins put a run on the board in the first two innings, but Kurtz settled down after that, ending his outing with three straight scoreless innings.
The Cougars took the lead in the fourth as Cole Bixler reached on an error to begin the inning. Sean Lyons followed with a single through the right side for MU's first hit of the game before Hughes knocked in Bixler with a single through the right side of the infield for the Cougars first run.
After a pop-up, Sean Boylan and Mike Raineri were hit by pitches to force in the tying run before Emerich gave the Cougars the lead with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Gwynedd Mercy responded in the sixth, scoring three runs of their own to take a 5-3 lead before Misericordia tied it back up in the bottom of the seventh. Emerich singled and Conor Smith doubled to put runners at second and third for Parker Abate, who grounded out to drive in a run. Tyler Holzapfel came up to pinch hit and delivered a single to right field to tie the game at five.
In the eighth, the Griffins used small ball to take the lead, scoring two runs on a walk, an error and three bunts. After the Cougars were held scoreless in the eighth, Gwynedd Mercy added three insurance runs before David Tatoian shut Misericorida down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning.
The Cougars are back in action, Wednesday, when they travel to Delaware Valley to take on the Aggies at 3:30.
