Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls to #20 Lycoming

The Misericordia University men's soccer team lost to #20 Lycoming, 2-0, on a rainy Wednesday at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars made several key defensive plays to keep the game close, but couldn't take advantage of some late scoring chances.

Misericordia's best chance came in the 77th minute when senior back Vincenzo Diliberti carried the ball upfield past several Warrior defenders before feeding a pass to Tristian Wright, who was making his season debut for the Cougars. Wright connected with first-year midfielder Eric Barczyk who ripped a shot from the top of the box that caromed off the crossbar.

Later in the half, the Cougars threatened once more when James Udasco played a header just wide from the right side. The pass was sent to the first-year forward on a cross from Ethan Benedict.

Misericordia made several key defensive plays to keep the offense within striking distance. After Lycoming took an early 1-0 advantage, Dominic Pizzi answered with two incredible saves in the 22nd minute.

Following a Tajhon Willis corner, the sophomore goalkeeper deflected two shots from Nick Thornton, which were both fired from five yards out.

The Cougars backs were also responsible for several key defensive stops. After a Warrior free kick from 20-yards out, Levi Roberts made a great play in traffic to deny Lycoming of a quality scoring chance. The junior was able to beat the Warriors to a loose ball and clear it out of the box.

Later in the first half, Connor McCarthy made a sliding stop in the box to neutralize a dangerous shot from Kalu Ume from less than 10-yards out.
In the second half, Diliberti denied Ume once more with a sliding stop. Roberts was able to win the ensuing scrum and clear the ball out of harm's way.

Colin Wieand scored the first goal for Lycoming in the 11th minute while Lance Klingler added on an insurance tally in the 50th minute.

Misericordia dropped to 1-6-1 on the season while Lycoming improved to 7-1-1. The Cougars will kick-off their MAC Freedom schedule on Saturday at DeSales.
