Coming off a cold shooting night earlier this week, the Misericordia University men's basketball team responded with an impressive 88-73 win over Haverford in the opening round of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament at Lycoming, Friday.
Jason Kenny had a team-high 36 points on 12-23 shooting, including 6-9 from three-point range, and had seven assists.
Tony Harding added four three pointers and 16 points and
Stone McCreary scored 12 points.
Noah Rivera grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Misericordia shot 50.8% from the floor as a team, including 44% (11-25) from beyond the arc.
The Cougars scored 10 straight points to ignite a 19-4 run late in the second half to pull away.
Misericordia never trailed and built a 21-point lead, 81-60, with 4:21 to play.
Tyerell Mann's layup gave the Cougars a 62-48 lead midway through the second half, but the Fords scored six straight points to get within 62-56 with 9:09 to play.
Harding made a pair of three-pointers to bookend a 13-0 run to give the Cougars a 75-56 lead with 5:38 remaining.
McCreary scored three straight buckets for the Cougars to stretch the lead to 85-65 with 2:48 to go.
Justin Iton gave the Cougars a lead they wouldn't relinquish with a layup on the opening possession scored three straight baskets for MU. Iton added another layup for an 11-3 lead less than five minutes into the game.
Kenny made back-to-back three-pointers late in the half to help the Cougars secure a 40-32 halftime lead.
Alec Rodway made three free throws to open the second half and followed up with a layup and the Cougars led 45-32 less than a minute into the second half.
MU will face Penn State Abington for the second time this season in the championship game, Saturday at 1:00.
The Cougars, 6-6, lost to the Lions, 85-77, in the opening round of the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament.
