The Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 5-0 after defeating Rutgers-Newark, 62-40, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.
Tessa Zamolyi tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds and Jordan Barth was good for 10 points and 13 rebounds. Â Nora Tracey had 10 points and seven rebounds and Erica Haefele added 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The Cougars went on a 17-0 run in the first half that put them up 21-4 early in the second quarter.
Barth was fouled twice with less than a 1:30 to go in the first quarter and hit all four shots from the line.
Zamolyi made a jumper in the paint and drew a foul to stretch the lead to 19-4 with 7:42 to go in the first half.
Tracey had a pair of offensive rebounds with two minutes to go in the first half, and found the back of the net to put the Cougars ahead, 31-15, at halftime.
Gianna Delfino made a nice cut underneath the basket and dished to Zamolyi who quickly tossed it against the glass and in to put MU up, 55-34, with five minutes remaining in the game.
Following an inbound pass from Haefele, Delfino put one in off the glass to push the lead to 58-36.
Misericordia will travel to Keystone, Monday at 6 p.m.
