MU Women Move to 5-0 With Win Over Rutgers-Newark

The Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 5-0 after defeating Rutgers-Newark, 62-40, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

Tessa Zamolyi tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds and Jordan Barth was good for 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Nora Tracey had 10 points and seven rebounds and Erica Haefele added 10 points and 5 rebounds.

The Cougars went on a 17-0 run in the first half that put them up 21-4 early in the second quarter.

Barth was fouled twice with less than a 1:30 to go in the first quarter and hit all four shots from the line.

Zamolyi made a jumper in the paint and drew a foul to stretch the lead to 19-4 with 7:42 to go in the first half.

Tracey had a pair of offensive rebounds with two minutes to go in the first half, and found the back of the net to put the Cougars ahead, 31-15, at halftime.

Gianna Delfino made a nice cut underneath the basket and dished to Zamolyi who quickly tossed it against the glass and in to put MU up, 55-34, with five minutes remaining in the game.

Following an inbound pass from Haefele, Delfino put one in off the glass to push the lead to 58-36.

Misericordia will travel to Keystone, Monday at 6 p.m.
