Harding, Balanced Attack Lead MU Men Past Wesley

Tony Harding led four players in double figures and Noah Rivera had a double-double as the Misericordia University men's basketball team downed Wesley, 74-62, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

Harding had 16 points and nine rebounds and Rivera added 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Darius Jackson had 15 points and Joseph Baldachino added 12.

Led by Jackson and Baldachino, the MU bench out-scored the Wolverines, 30-12.

Harding was 6-6 from the free throw line to lead a 90% (18-20) team effort from the line.

Nate Kreitzer made two free throws to start an 8-0 run and put Misericordia in front for good, 58-56, with 5:48 to play.

Patrick Douthit followed with a pair of free throws and Baldachino's driving scoop shot made it 62-56.

Douthit added a back-door layup with a nice pass from Harding to make it 64-56 with 2:33 remaining.

Harding and Baldachino combined for 10 free throws over the final 1:46 to secure the win.

Kreitzer drained a three-pointer from the top of the key and Rivera finished a lob pass from Harding as the Cougars opened the game on a 9-2 run.

After Wesley pulled within 14-13, Jackson drilled a jumper just inside the arc and hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to make it 19-13 with 8:56 left in the first half.

Kreitzer found Jackson with a cross-court pass to finish a fast break and give MU a 24-19 lead with 5:13 to go.

The Wolverines closed the half with an 11-4 spurt to take a 30-28 halftime lead.

Rivera scored on a lay-in front with a feed from Kreitzer and converted the three-point play to put MU up 37-34 early in the second half.

After Harding's driving layup from the left side, Jackson buried three-pointers from each corner to give the Cougars a 45-40 advantage with 13:15 to go.

Baldachino added two deep three-pointers from the right wing to give MU a 56-51 lead, but Wesley rallied to pull even, 56-56, with 5:56 to play to set up MU's game-winning run.

Misericordia will travel to Neumann, Wednesday.
