The Misericordia University women's basketball team it first loss of the season, 75-57, to Scranton in the championship game of the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic, Thursday night.

Tessa Zamolyi led the Cougars with 13 points and nine rebounds whileÂ
Erica Haefele added 13 points. Haefele was named to the all-tournament team.
Madison Borum added 11 points and five rebounds.

Emma Hayes made a layup with 8:07 left in the first to give the Cougars an early 4-2 lead against the second-ranked team in the nation. The Lady Royals finished the quarter on a 15-4 run to lead 17-8.

After trailing 38-24 at the half, the Cougars cut the deficit to 11 when Zamolyi hit a three with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter, but the Royals controlled the pace and scoring for the rest of the third.

The Cougars outscored the Royals, 18-16 in the fourth quarter thanks to a pair of three-pointers from Zamolyi.

MU, 9-1, will play its next game in the New Year when they host Lebanon Valley, Saturday, January 4 at 1:00.
