Kean Baseball Rallies Past MU

Kean University rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Misericordia University baseball team, 6-5, Saturday.

Kenny Jarema had two hits and scored two runs for MU and Tyler Holzapfel drove in three runs.

Tom Jacob started and worked six shutout innings.

Jarema led off the game with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Holzapfel's sacrifice fly to give MU a 1-0 lead.

Jarema drew a two-out walk in the third and went to second when Parker Abate was hit by a pitch.  Holzapfel singled up the middle to make it 2-0.

The Cougars added a pair of runs in the seventh.  Santo Guinta reached via HBP and stole second.  Dalton Emerich was hit by a pitch.  Guinta moved up a passed ball and Emerich stole second.

After a double-play, Austin Miles drew a walk and Jarema drove in a run with a single to center to make it 3-0.  Abate followed with an RBI-single to left for a 4-0 lead.

Kean got a pair of runs back in the eighth, but the Cougars responded with a run in the top of the ninth.

Miles singled with one out, stole second and moved to third on an error before scoring on Holzapfel's sacrifice fly to make it 5-2.

Kean opened the bottom of the ninth with four consecutive walks and followed with two straight singles for a 6-5 walk-off win.

The Cougars will face Montclair, Sunday at the University of Scranton.
