The Misericordia University baseball team used two big innings to cruise to a 13-3 win at Arcadia, Tuesday.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Cougars broke the game open with seven runs in the second and added five more in the sixth.
Brady Madden had three hits and four RBI,
Conor Smith drove in three runs and
Billy Kerwien had two hits and two RBI.
Kenny Jarema had three hits and
Steve Weisensee and
Dalton Emerich added two hits each.
Alejandro Santiago allowed five hits over six innings in his first career start to pick up his first win.
Jarema led off the game with a double and scored on Madden's two-out single through the left side.
After the Knights scored a two-out run in the bottom of the first to tie the score, the Cougars erupted for seven runs in the top of the second.
Santo Guinta reached on an error to lead off the inning and came home with the go-ahead run on Kerwien's double down the right field line. Emerich singled and stole second and Smith made it 4-1 with a two-run double to right center.
After Jarema drove in a run with a triple, Weisensee was hit by a pitch and moved up on a wild pitch. Madden plated two more runs with a single and Guinta tripled down the right field line to make it 8-1.
Jarema singled up the middle to open the sixth inning and advanced to second on Weisensee's one-out infield single. Madden doubled to drive in a run and
Tyler Holzapfel followed with an RBI-single to make it 10-1.
Guinta walked to load the bases and everyone moved up on a wild pitch. Kerwien singled through the left side to drive in a run and Smith closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Sean Boylan worked two shutout innings and
Isaac Snyder allowed two unearned runs in the ninth.
The Cougars will open a three-game MAC Freedom series against Eastern, Friday at Tambur Field.
