The Misericordia University baseball team defeated Eastern University, 19-0, Friday afternoon at Tambur Field. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
Ian McCole captured his conference-leading sixth win in dominant fashion. The sophomore surrendered just one hit and struck out five batters on the road to his second shutout of the season, lowering his ERA to 1.93 on the year.
McCole's no-hit bid was ended in the top of the sixth inning when Luke Gruendl singled to center field.
Kenny Jarema,
Brady Madden and
Sean Boylan helped pave the way for the Cougars' offense with three RBI, respectively. Jarema went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Madden and Boylan were each 1-for-1 at the plate.
Tyler Holzapfel was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

Kyle Davenport each drove in one run.
Misericordia got going early with two runs in the first inning. Madden knocked in the first run with a sacrifice fly to left field while Holzapfel drove in the second run with a double to deep right field.
After McCole opened the game with consecutive 1-2-3 innings, the Cougars batted around in the second and third innings to put the game out of reach.
Jarema opened the scoring with a two-run double to right field. Madden then added his second sacrifice fly of the afternoon to bring home Jarema a few batters later, 5-0.
Later in the second inning, Kerwien brought home a runner with a hit by pitch while Emerich walked in the following at bat to expand the team's lead to 7-0.
Smith knocked in one run with a single up the middle while Boylan drove in two more with a base hit down the left field line to cap-off an eight-run inning, 10-0.
The Cougars added five more runs in the third with another big inning. After
Steve Weisensee opened the inning with a single to left field, Madden brought him home with an RBI triple to center. Holzapfel then drove in Madden with a sacrifice fly in the team's following at bat, 12-0.
After Misericordia loaded the bases, Boylan drove in his third run of the game with a hit by pitch. Jarema and Hughes then singled in consecutive plate appearances to put the Cougars ahead 15-0.
MU added on another run in the fourth inning when Davenport scored Holzapfel on a fielder's choice, 16-0.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Cougars capped-off their scoring with three runs in the sixth. Sienkiewicz beat out an infield single to score
Joe Liscio while Lennon brought home the first-year infielder with a base hit, 18-0.
The Cougars scored their final run on an Eastern throwing error to cap-off a season-high offensive performance.
The Cougars and Eagles will conclude their three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Eastern.
