The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team controlled every statistic except the score in a tough 14-11 loss at Susquehanna, Wednesday.
Pat Luzzi led the Cougars with six goals and two assists and
Nick Torzilli added two goals and an assist.
Garett Rogers won nine of 13 face-offs and had eight ground balls while
Paul Hanrahan added seven ground balls.
The Cougars held a 59-43 advantage in shots and won 17 of 29 face-offs.
MU was 19-20 in clears and held a slight 33-32 edge in ground balls.
But, Susquehanna goalie Dylan Abplanalp made 18 saves to turn the tide in the River Hawks' favor.
The Cougars took a quick 3-0 lead on goals by
Garrett Heidecker,
Conner Entwistle and Luzzi in the first 3:30.
Susquehanna answered with four straight goals and Luzzi responded for MU in the closing seconds of the first quarter as the period ended in a 4-4 tie.
Torzilli scored midway through the second quarter to put MU back in front, 5-4.
Susquehanna scored twice in the final 2:58 of the first half to take a 7-6 halftime lead and scored twice in 10 seconds early in the third period to go up 9-6.
Torzilli and Luzzi scored back-to-back man-up goals in the third to cut the margin to 9-8. The River Hawks scored three straight to take a 12-8 lead.
