The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team defeated Lycoming, 20-9, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Amy Roth led the way for the Cougars with five goals and three assists. The junior attacker recorded season-highs in goals, assists and points.
Kaila Quinlivan contributed five points with four goals and one assist while
Kristen Ritter,
Katie Reilly and
Lexee Willey each netted two goals.
Justine Johnson,
Emily Connell,
Amanda Rackliff,
Lauren Weitzel and
Shae O'Leary each found the back of the net once for Misericordia. Johnson also added two assists while Reilly and
Taylor Hannaberry tallied one.
The Warriors opened the game with consecutive scores, but the Cougars responded with four unanswered goals over a four minute span to take an early 4-2 advantage.
Quinlivan opened the scoring with 23:52 remaining in the first half. Moments later, Roth tallied her first goal of the contest off an assist from Quinlivan. Misericordia then captured back-to-back draw controls which quickly led to goals from Reilly and Roth, respectively.
After Lycoming brought the game within one score, the Cougars rallied for six straight goals to take a commanding 10-3 lead.
With 14:36 remaining in the opening half, Rackliff led off the run with a goal from Roth. Quinlivan then added another tally with a man-down, while Johnson scored off a free position shot, moments later. Ritter, Roth and Willey each capped off the rally to put the Cougars up seven goals. Â
Lycoming ended the Cougars' streak with 7:06 remaining in the half, but Misericordia answered with goals from Quinlivan, Roth and Connell to take a 13-4 advantage heading into the final minute of the half. The Warriors then scored with five seconds remaining to pull within eight goals at intermission.
The Cougars carried their first half momentum into the final stanza with four unanswered goals. Quinlivan got the squad started while Reilly, Weitzel and Roth each scored to make it 17-5.
With the Cougars leading 18-6, starting goalkeeper
Maggie McGovern exited the game to give way to
Erika DeSantis. McGovern, who earned her fourth victory of the season, allowed six goals and made eight saves in 45 minutes of action.
The Cougars outshot the Warriors 38-23 with a 28-18 shots on goal advantage.
Brianna Ladner led the way with eight draw controls for Misericordia while
Nicole Winter recorded a game-high four ground balls.
Misericordia improved to 4-5 overall while Lycoming fell to 2-7. The Cougars play at Frostburg, Saturday.
