Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader in Kissimmee, FL, Thursday.
The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Alvernia, 3-2, and then beat John Carroll, 7-4.
Ciara DeLong had three hits against Alvernia and
Kiersten Pflueger had two hits, including a double.
Maddie Holub and
Miranda Bohn both had two hits.
Bohn scattered seven hits over seven innings to get the win.
Against John Carroll, DeLong had two hits and drove in two runs and Pflueger hit a two-run homer.
Holub had two hits and Butera had a hit, an RBI and scored twice.
Moyle struck out five and scattered five hits over seven innings to earn the win.
Against Alvernia, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
DeLong led off with a single and was replaced when Butera reached on a fielder's choice. Holub singled and Pflueger doubled to drive in Butera with the game's first run
Alvernia tied it in the fourth and went ahead in the sixth.
Pinch-hitter
Megan Murphy reached on an error to lead off the seventh inning and went to third on DeLong's double.
The Cougars pulled off a double steal to score the tying run and Butera's singled plated the winning run.
Against John Carroll, the Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Butera drew a one-out walk and Pflueger blasted a two-out, two-run homer.
The Cougars stretched their lead to 7-0 with a five-run fourth inning.
Bohn reached on an error to lead off the inning and pinch-runner
Lindsey Shimko went to third on
Brianna Holder's single.
Jessie McDonough drove in a run with a ground out.
Caitlin Kennedy walked and DeLong drove in two runs with a triple to right center to make it 5-0. Butera singled up the middle to drive in a run and came around to score when Holub's single got past the John Carroll outfield.
