After the third Monarch's pitching change of the inning, Madden cleared the bases with a two-run double to left field. Holzapfel was then hit by a pitch to prolong the inning, while Kerwien drove home the inning's final run with a single to left field, 11-0.
The Cougars' defense helped out Snyder with several key plays. After allowing the first two runners to reach base, Snyder induced a 4-6-3 double play to escape the potential threat. It was the first of three double plays that the Cougars' infield turned on the afternoon.
In the fourth inning,
Shane Hughes helped Snyder escape the frame unscathed with a diving catch on a hard-hit line drive to left field. During the bottom half of the inning, Hughes worked a four pitch walk and later scored on a Boylan single to expand the team's lead to 12-0.
The Monarchs plated their lone run in the seventh inning on a Matt Dobeck fielder's choice. However, the Cougars responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs.
