Patrick Luzzi had a record-setting night as the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team clinched a postseason berth with a 17-9 win over King's, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Luzzi had eight goals and two assists to set new school single-season records with 51 goals and 74 points. His eight goals tied the school single-game mark.
Brandon Winslow had four goals and four assists to go over the 100 goal plateau for his career.
Nick Torzilli added three goals and two assists as the Cougars won their fourth straight to improve to 4-2 in the MAC Freedom.
Matt Beck made 16 saves in goal.
Garrett Heidecker was 10-13 on face offs while Garrett Rogers was 12-16.
The Cougars used a big second half, including a 7-1 spurt in the third quarter, to pull away.
Winslow gave the Cougars an early lead when he bounced a shot inside the right post with 12:16 to play in the first quarter. Luzzi came from behind the net and stuffed a shot inside the right post to make it 2-0 nearly two minutes later.
King's answered with three straight goals in a five-minute span to take a 3-2 lead with 1:00 left in the first quarter.
Winslow pulled the Cougars even when he beat the shot clock from the top of the circle for his 100
th career goal less than four minutes into the second quarter.
King's went back in front with 7:40 to go in the second period, but Luzzi one-timed a pass from Winslow less than a minute later to make it 4-4.
Winslow gave the Cougars a 5-4 lead when he a bounced a shot inside the right post, but King's pulled even with 2:20 left in the first half.
Torzilli took a feed from Winslow on the right post, faked a shot to beat a defender, and put the Cougars ahead for good with 1:35 to go in the second period.
Winslow whipped a shot from the top of the circle to make it 7-5 early in the third quarter.
Following a King's goal, Luzzi scored five straight goals to give the Cougars a 12-6 lead late in the third quarter.
He scored three straight goals from behind the net and added a man-up goal as the penalty expired and set school records with his 49
th goal of the season and 71
st point of the season with a shot from beyond the top of the circle with 1:10 left in the third quarter.
Heidecker won the ensuing face off and fired a low shot from the right wing to make it 13-6.
Luzzi opened the fourth quarter with a shot into the upper right corner to the school single-game record with his eighth goal.
The Cougars will wrap up the regular season at Delaware Valley, Saturday.
