The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team's rally came up just short in a 12-11 loss to Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Down 8-3 at halftime, the Cougars used a 5-1 spurt in the second half to get within a goal, but couldn't net the equalizer.

Nick Torzilli had four goals and an assist to lead the Cougars and Brandon Winslow added three goals and two assists.

Sean Luzzi had two goals and two assists.

Garett Heidecker was 12-21 on face offs and had eight ground balls.

Dom Campanale and Matt Beck had four ground balls each.

With a man-up opportunity early in the third quarter, the Cougars moved the ball around the perimeter before Luzzi finally found McSwiggan on the left post to cut the deficit to 8-4.

Eastern answered with a goal, but the Cougars rattled of four straight tallies.

Luzzi whipped a shot in from 18-yards out and Winslow scored the first of his three straight goals from a tough angle near the right post to get within 9-6 with 4:08 to play in the third quarter.

Winslow bounced in a shot from the right win to open the fourth quarter and finished a feed from Luzzi to take advantage of an Eastern turnover behind the net to get within 9-8.

Eastern responded with two straight goals to go up, 11-8.

Paul Hanrahan scooped up a ground ball off the ensuing face-off and bounced in a shot from the right win with 8:24 to go.

Eastern again answered with a goal before Torzilli scored twice in the final 3:05 to keep the Cougars alive.
