Eric Jeffries plowed in from the one-yard line to lift the Misericordia University football team to a thrilling 35-32 win over Lebanon Valley in quadruple overtime, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
After LVC went ahead 32-29 on a 31-yard field goal, the Cougars rallied for the winning score
Brady Williams rolled out to his right and found Mike Gawlik in the flat for an eight-yard gain to the 17.
Gawlik went up the middle for six yards and Williams gained six more on a keeper to set up second-and-four at the five.
After Gawlik moved the pile to the one-yard line, Jeffries was stuffed on first-and-goal, but powered his way in for the winning score on the next play.
Williams was 24-40 for 224 yards and three touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown.
Sam Gillison had nine catches for 99 yards and
Isaiah Williams had eight catches for 73 yards and two scores.
Aaron Barry added a touchdown reception for the Cougars.
Alexander Hafner had a team-high 10 tackles and
Tavion Rogers added nine stops.
Nick Yeager made tackles to become MU's all-time leader with 204 tackles and added an interception.
Lebanon Valley took the opening kick-off and marched 64 yards, but were denied when Yeager blocked a 24-yard field goal attempt.
The Cougars answered with a lengthy drive that consumed 6:16, but also came away empty after their 31-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
MU got the ball back early in the second quarter when
Isaiah Williams fielded a punt on the bounce, juked a defender and raced down the left side line for 18 yards into Lebanon Valley territory.
On second down, Williams evaded pressure and found
David Cromwell on a shovel pass for a seven-yard gain.
Williams picked up a first down on a keeper and hit Gillison on the left hash mark for another first down to the Dutchmen 20.
Cromwell went off left tackle and cut back for 13 yard to the seven and Williams eventually went up the middle for a TD to give MU a 6-0 lead with 8:50 left in the second quarter.
Lebanon Valley answered with a field goal and went ahead 10-6 on the last play of the first half.
Mike Becke recovered a fumble to give MU the ball midway through the third quarter and the Cougars converted it into a 41-yard field goal by
Matt Dinnocenti to pull within 10-9 with 2:27 left in the period.
After Leb Val went up 13-9 with a field goal with 11:31 to go in the fourth quarter, the teams traded punts before MU took over at the LVC 46 with 7:34 to play.
Facing third-and-10, Williams hit Gillison on the right sideline for 20 yards to the 26.
On second-and-6 from the Leb Val nine, Williams rolled right and found Barry in the flat and he dove for the pylon to put the Cougars in front, 16-13, with 4:45 to go.
The Dutchmen made a 30-yard field goal with less than a minute to play to force overtime.
The Cougars' first OT possession ended in an interception and Leb Val had a chance to win on a 42-yard field goal, but
Nikolai Kepple blocked the kick to keep MU alive.
After Lebanon Valley went up 23-16 on the next possession,
Brady Williams rolled right on second-and-goal and found
Isaiah Williams near the right pylon to pull even, 23-23.
Brady Williams pulled the ball down and scampered for 11 yards to open the third OT and then found
Isaiah Williams over the middle for a six-yard strike and a 29-23 lead.
The two-point conversion failed.
The Dutchmen scored on fourth-and-goal from the four, but their game-winning two-point attempt was swatted down by Hafner.
Lebanon Valley settled for a field goal in the fourth OT to take a 32-29 lead to set up MU's winning score.
The Cougars are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC. MU will host King's, Saturday at 1:00 for Homecoming.
