The Misericordia women's basketball team defeated King's, 76-62, in a key MAC Freedom contest, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.

The Cougars improved to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play while giving the Monarchs (6-1) their first loss in conference play.

Erica Haefele led the Cougars with 18 points and five rebounds.

Tessa Zamolyi had 15 points and seven rebounds while
Jordan Barth added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The game went back-and-forth early on, but the Cougars went on a 15-2 run to end the first quarter which was capped by three pointers from Erica and
Morgan Haefele to give MU a 26-14 lead.

The Cougars hot shooting continued into the second quarter thanks to two three-pointers from
Alyssa Bondi and one from E. Haefele.

The last bucket of the half came with 1:23 left as E. Haefele drove into the paint and made a layup to give the Cougars a 48-34 lead.

The Monarchs got to within 11 in the second half, but the Cougars continued to pull away thanks to two more three-pointers from E. Haefele and four points from Barth in the third quarter.

MU will travel to FDU-Florham on Saturday.
