The Misericordia University Rocket League team dropped a pair of tough 3-2 decisions to Shawnee State and Lebanon Valley, Tuesday in the NACE Tournament.

Shawnee State scored two quick goals and held on for a 3-1 win in the opener, but the Cougars answered with a 2-1 win to pull even.

Connor Westerfield scored with a beautiful shot from an aerial just over 90 seconds into the third game and Justin Occhipinti doubled the lead shortly after on a Shawnee defensive miscue. Shawnee answered with 2:24 left to play and pulled even a minute later.

Nick Marrone notched the deciding goal with a little over a minute to play to give Misericordia a 3-2 win and a 2-1 series lead.

In game four, Shawnee was first on the board a minute into play with a well-placed shot in the top corner from long range. Both teams created chances in what turned out to be an even game, but Shawnee added a second goal with just under two minutes to play.  Westerfield got the Cougars on the board late, but Shawnee added an insurance goal to force a fifth game.

Shawnee took an early lead, but Marrone tied it with 3:33 remaining. The Bears netted a second with a little over a minute to play and added two quick tallies as the Cougars were pushing to even the score.

Against Lebanon Valley Blue, Westerfield got the Cougars off the mark with a goal coming a minute and a half into play in game one and put a terrific defensive performance together to shut down LVC in game one to take a 1-0 series lead.

Game two saw more of the same with great pressure from Misericordia as the Cougars dominated the first couple minutes before surrendering the first tally in the game. The Cougars kept the better of the play and created multiple chances throughout, but finding a goal proved to be elusive and LVC scored the dagger with less than 10 seconds to play to take game two.

Westerfield got Misericordia on the board first in game three with a goal-mouth scramble which LVC was not able to clear off the line.  Logan Davison, new addition to the Rocket League team, gave an impressive individual effort to put the Cougars up 2-0. LVC stormed back and scored two goals late and went on to win in overtime.

Misericordia started game four strong as Occhipinti used a good set up from Davison to give MU the early lead.  Occhipinti doubled his tally with a setup from Westerfield to make it 2-0.

Westerfield added a goal with an assist from capitalized as LVC continued to push with the assist coming from Davison to force a game five.

Lebanon Valley took an early lead and added an insurance goal to clinch the series with a 2-0 win.
