The Misericordia Cougars Rocket League team defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1, Thursday.

The Cougars fell behind 1-0 before a Matt Gillingham goal off a Conner Westerfield assist tied the score at the four-minute mark.  The game went to overtime and VWU netted the game-winner just 35 seconds in to the extra session.

Gillingham scored in the first 30 seconds to put the Cougars up 1-0 in game two.  VWU tied the game halfway through to force overtime, but Justin Occhipinti scored the game-winner just 12 seconds in.

VWU took a 1-0 lead midway through game before Occhipinti tied the game up with just over a minute left in play.  Gillingham tallied the game-winner with just four seconds remaining for a 2-1 win and a 2-1 lead in the series.

Virginia Wesleyan scored early in game four, but Occhipinti scored a pair of late goals to clinch the game and the match.

Gillingham had three goals, an assist and four saves on the night while Westerfield had three assists and seven saves.  Occhipinti had four goals and five saves.
