The Misericordia men's soccer team is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of its 2000 PAC championship and the first NCAA Tournament berth in school history.

The Cougars set a school record for wins (19-2), including a 15-match win streak, and won their third PAC title in five years.

Misericordia opened the season with four straight wins before dropping a 4-3 decision at Cortland.

The Cougars rattled off 13 consecutive wins, including a perfect 8-0 mark in the PAC, to finish the regular season at 17-1.

Misericordia defeated Cabrini, 1-0, in the PAC semifinals and downed Beaver (Arcadia), 1-0, in the title match.

Len Bartone dribbled through three Cabrini defenders and slotted a ball inside the far post at 16:44 for the only goal of the game against Cabrini.

After being held without a shot in the first half, Cabrini's best scoring chance came late in the second half, Matt Stitzer cleared a ball off the line to preserve Misericordia's lead.

Brian Blesi's shot off the left post off a throw-in from game-MVP Nick Bressler in the 73rd minute was the difference in the Cougars win over Beaver in the finals.

The Cougars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at RIT, but the Tigers rallied with two late goals to eliminate Misericordia.

Bartone (12g, 4a) and Fritz (12g, 4a) tied for the team scoring lead and goalkeeper David Kern led the PAC with 0.75 goals against average.

Bartone, Kern, Blesi and Bressler were named first-team All-PAC while Fritz and Stitzer earned second-team status.

Bressler ranked among the national leaders with 11 assists and the Cougars near the top with a .904 winning percentage.

The season was also highlighted by head coach Chuck Edkins' 100th career victory in a 2-0 win over Baptist Bible College.
