Shenandoah Rallies Twice to Sweep MU Baseball in Opener

The Misericordia baseball team opened the 2020 season with a pair of one-run losses at Shenandoah, 6-5 and 4-3.

Tyler Holzapfel led the Cougars in game one going 2-4 with three RBI while Austin Miles went 2-3 with a run scored.

Ian McCole six innings with eight strikeouts and allowing three earned runs while Sean Boylan worked the seventh and absorbed the loss.

The Hornets took an early lead in the scoring three runs in the first two innings but Holzapfel knotted things up at 3-3 with an RBI single up the middle. 

Boylan crossed the plate in the fourth inning following a throwing error to give the Cougars a 4-3 lead.

Holzapfel got things going again in the sixth inning with a single to right field to score Dalton Emerich extending the lead to 5-3.

The Hornets rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the opener.

In game two, Boylan went 3-3 at the plate with one run scored and Garrett McIlhenny went 2-3 with a run scored.

Alejandro Santiago started on the hill going 4.1 innings with four strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. Taylor Price allowed two earned runs in 1.2 innings of relief to take the loss.

The Cougars found themselves down 2-0 after one inning, but got things going in the fifth to take the lead 3-2.

Boylan, Joe Liscio and McIlhenny each singled to load the bases with no outs. A hit by pitch and a walk plated two runs before Sean Lyons hit a sac fly to give the Cougars the lead.

After Shenandoah scratch across two runs in the sixth inning, Misericordia managed to get two runners on in the seventh but left them stranded to end the game.

Misericordia will travel to Kean, Saturday at noon.​
