MU Splits Doubleheader Against Mitchell

The Misericordia baseball team split a doubleheader with Mitchell College, Sunday afternoon in Port Charlotte, FL.

The Cougars dropped the first game, 5-0, but rallied to win the nightcap, 6-4.

In the opener, the Cougars managed just three hits while Alejandro Santiago threw 3.1 innings allowing just two hits and absorbed the loss.

In the nightcap, Brady Madden had two hits and two RBI while Sean Lyons and Shane Hughes each had two hits and an RBI.

Sean Boylan was 1-3 and scored two runs.

Joe Valenti secured his first career win, going five innings with six strikeouts and allowing three earned runs.

Austin Miles led off the second game with a single and Boylan followed by reaching on an error.

Miles came around to score on a single by Lyons and Boylan scored on a SAC fly from Madden to make it 2-0.

The Cougars scored another run in the top of the second. Garrett McIlhenney started the inning with a walk and came around to score on a double from Mike Murphy.

Madden singled in the third and later scored on a double from Hughes to take a 4-0 lead. 

MU added to their lead in the 4th.

Billy Kerwien led off with a single and Murphy reached the following at bat on an error.

Miles' sacrifice bunt moved both runners over, but Kerwien was caught stealing home after a failed suicide squeeze attempt.

Boylan singled to score Murphy and Madden later singled to score Boylan.

Kyle Kane relieved Valenti and threw two scoreless innings allowing just one hit to earn his first career save. 

The Cougars (3-4) wrap up a three game series with Mitchell, Monday at 1:00.
