MU Football Rallies for Thrilling Win Over King's

The Misericordia University football team rallied for a thrilling 24-17 win over King's on Senior Appreciation Day, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field

The Cougars scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome a 17-10 deficit.

MU quarterback Mitchell Micale pulled the Cougars even with a 10-yard scamper midway through the fourth quarter and Dylan Lukachko put Misericordia in front with his first career touchdown with 4:27 to play.

The Misericordia defense forced fumbles on three consecutive King's possessions in the fourth quarter and Zach Orzell sealed the game with a pass break-up inside the five-yard line as the Cougars took over on downs with less than a minute to play.

Trailing 17-10, MU's Tavion Rogers and T.J. Prather stuffed King's on a fourth-and-one at midfield with 10:20 left in the game.

Facing 3rd-and-three at the King's 32, Micale went around the left end and cut back down the middle for a 32-yard gain to the Monarchs' 10.

On first down, Micale pump-faked to his right and raced 10 yards for the tying score with 8:51 remaining.

Misericordia's game-winning score was set-up when Xander Shaner scooped up a fumble after Prather's strip-sack and rumbled 14 yards to the King's 12-yard line.

On third-and-6, Micale rolled left and pitched to Lukachko who dove for the pylon to give MU a 24-17 lead with 4:27 to go.

The Cougars got the ball back at their own 45 following another fumble, but were forced to punt and King's took over at their own 20 with 1:58 left.

Tyler Carey made a leaping grab on fourth-and-3 for a first down at the Misericordia 42.  A roughing the passer penalty and a15-yard completion from Tyler Moore to Brandon Cohen gave King's a first down at the Misericordia 12.

Facing fourth-and-1 from the eight, Moore rolled to his left, but Orzell deflected the pass out of bounds to secure the win.

King's took advantage of short field in the first quarter after Misericordia's fake punt attempt on their opening possession was denied by Ahmad Griffin.

Brennan Robinson scampered 19 yards for a score to cap a three-play, 34-yard drive to give the Monarchs a 7-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.

King's added a 40-yard field goal from Kyle Prescavage to take a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Misericordia put together a long drive to get on the board early in the second quarter.  The Cougars went 52 yards in 13 plays, including a fourth-down conversion at midfield, before Nick Neidlinger's 41-yard field goal made it 10-3 with 13:27 left in the first half.

MU forced a punt on the opening drive of the second half and used a quick strike to tie the game.

On second-and-6 from their own 31, Micale hit Jadyn Childs on a quick slant over the top of the defense and he raced 69 yards to pull MU even, 10-10, with 11:35 to go in the third quarter.

King's went back in front, 17-10, on a 43-yard run by Robinson with 1:33 left in the third.

Micale threw for 201 yards and a TD and added 107 on the ground and a score for the Cougars while Childs had three catches for 144 yards and a score.

Rogers had a team-high 12 tackles for the Cougars and Orzell had nine stops while Prather had seven tackles and three forced fumbles.

Robinson had 160 yards rushing and two TD's to lead the Monarchs.

Dylan White led King's with 11 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a 60-yard interception return.
