The Misericordia University men's basketball wrapped up first semester action with an 88-67 loss at Montclair State, Saturday.

Rodrigo Vani led the Cougars with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Nick Hornung finished with eight points and four boards while Matthew Marchetti shot 2-3 from downtown and had two blocks.

Daron Pierre and Joseph Baldacchino both recorded three assists.

Nick Hornung scored the first basket of the afternoon with a layup under the net off a Pierre assist.

Kevin Lazdowsky connected on a pull-up three to put MU up 13-7 and Vani threw down a dunk to extend the Cougars' lead to eight midway through the first half.

A Marchetti three-pointer put Misericordia up, 23-12.

With five minutes left in the first, Vani made a steal and connected on a three-point basket on the ensuing possession.

Vani beat the first-half buzzer with a layup to finish the first half with nine points.

Mike Lyons scored nine consecutive points and grabbed two rebounds late in the second.

Vani scored seven consecutive points for the Cougars and assisted Blake Beebe's layup in the final minute.

MU shot 47.1% from the field and won the rebounds battle, 36-32.

The Cougars will return to action at Penn State Altoona, December 30.
