The Misericordia University baseball team split a doubleheader at Stevens, Tuesday.
The Cougars took the opener, 14-7, but dropped the nightcap, 6-5, in 11 innings.
Austin Miles had three hits and four RBI in game one while
Derrick Vosburg and
Santino Manganella both had three hits.
Dalton Emerich had three RBI.
David McCurry struck out four over five innings to earn the win while
Kyle Kane closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Randy Mateo had three hits and three RBI in the second game while
Owen VanNewkirk had two hits and two RBI.
Isaac Snyder struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work, but didn't factor in the decision.
The Ducks scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings and scored two in the bottom of the 11
th to win in walk-off fashion.
Sean Boylan led off the second inning with a single, stole second and came home on Vosburg's single through the left side.
After Stevens took a 2-1 lead in the third, the Cougars scored times in the top of the fourth to go back in front. Manganella reached on a bunt single and moved to third on Miles' ground-rule double to center. MU went in front a two-run error on a sacrifice bunt by
Mike Murphy. The Cougars made it 4-2 on Emerich's squeeze bunt.
Miles drove in four runs as part of a nine-run fifth inning, including a ground-rule double and a three-run homer. Vosburg had two hits in the inning.
Misericordia took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second game and the score stood until Stevens scored twice in the bottom of the sixth.
Garrett McIlhenney drew a lead-off walk and Boylan walked. After a double-steal with one out, both runners scored when VanNewkirk reached on a throwing error. Mateo made it 3-0 with an RBI-single up the middle.
After Stevens got within 3-2, Misericordia got both runs back in the top of the seventh. Boylan reached on an infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch. VanNewkirk singled in a run and later scored on Mateo's single through the left side to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead.
Stevens tied the game on a pinch-hit three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.
After escaping a bases-loaded, no outs jam in the bottom of the 10
th inning, the Cougars went back in front with a run in the top of the 11
th.
Boylan led off with a single to center and advanced to second on a sac bunt before coming home on Mateo's third RBI-hit of the game.
Stevens scored twice in the bottom of the 11
th to secure the win.
The Cougars will visit Delaware Valley for a doubleheader, Wednesday.
