MU Baseball Sweeps Del Val

The Misericordia University baseball team swept a doubleheader at Delaware Valley, 11-2, 19-1, Wednesday.

Santino Manganella had two hits and two RBI in the opener and Garrett McIlhenney added two hits while Brendan Gray hit a solo homer.

Joe Valenti struck out six over six innings to pick up the win.

Dalton Emerich had three hits and four RBI in the second game while Kyle Lennon, Brady Madden, Nick Helman and Joe Liscio all had two hits.

Nick Gillen worked two shutout innings to earn the win while five relievers worked one inning each.

In game one, the Cougars took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back.  McIlhenney led off the game with a walk and moved to second on Dante Salerno's one-out walk.  Owen VanNewkirk singled in the first run and Randy Mateo walked to load the bases.  Derrick Vosburg drove in a run on a fielder's choice and VanNewkirk scored on an error to make it 3-0.  Manganella closed out the scoring with an RBI-single to left.

Sean Boylan doubled in McIlhenney in the top of the second to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead.

After Del Val scored twice in the bottom of the second, MU got them both back in the top of the third on RBI-singles by Manganella and Michael Murphy.

The Cougars went up 10-2 with three runs in the fourth and Gray led off the seventh with a solo homer to finish the scoring.

Misericordia scored nine runs in the top of the first in game two.  McIlhenney walked to open the game and scored on Emerich's triple to right center.  Madden had a two-run double to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead and after McIlhenney drew his second walk of the inning, Emerich followed with his second hit of the frame with a two-run single.

The Cougars added four more in the second.  McIlhenney had a two-run double and scored on Emerich's single up the middle.  Emerich scored on a wild pitch for a 13-0 lead.
