The Misericordia University baseball team took a doubleheader from King's, 6-1, 10-7, Sunday afternoon at Tambur Field to complete a four-game sweep of the Monarchs.
Sean Boylan and
Brady Madden had two hits in the opener and
Dante Salerno drove in two runs to back the complete-game effort of
David McCurry.
McCurry struck out six and allowed just three hits to earn the win.
In the nightcap,
Derrick Vosburg had three hits and four RBI and Boylan had two hits and drove in three runs.Â
Kyle Lennon added a pair of hits as the Cougars won their sixth straight.
Isaac Snyder struck out four in five shutout innings to get the win.
Tyler Leonard pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save.
In the opener, the Cougars scored in each of the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Boylan tripled to right center with one out in the bottom of the first inning and scored the game's first run when Salerno reached on an infield error.Â
Owen VanNewkirk was hit by a pitch and
Santino Manganella singled through the right side to make it 2-0.
Madden singled up the middle with one out in the second and moved to second on a wild pitch. Boylan lined a single to left field to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
Shane Hughes led off the third with a double to right center and
Austin Miles followed with a walk. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt and Madden was hit by a pitch to load the bases.Â
Garrett McIlhenney drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Hughes scored from second base on the play to the Cougars up 5-0.
King's scored its lone run in the sixth and the Cougars got it back in their half when Madden doubled to the wall in left and came home on Salerno's single to center.
In game two, the Cougars built a 9-0 lead through four innings and held off a late King's rally.
Randy Mateo reached via hit by pitch in the second and hustled to third when Vosburg reached on an error. Madden's sacrifice fly gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Consecutive singles by
Dalton Emerich, Salerno and Boylan gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Vosburg singled to center to drive in two runs and Madden doubled down the left field line to make it 5-0.
Boylan and Vosburg both had two-run singles as part of a four-run fourth to stretch MU's lead to 9-0.
Misericordia will host Delaware Valley for a doubleheader, Thursday at noon while King's will visit DeSales, Wednesday evening.
