MU Baseball Ends Regular Season on 12-Game Winning Streak

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team swept a doubleheader at FDU-Florham, Sunday, to finish the regular season on a 12-game winning streak and earn the top seed in the MAC Freedom Championships.

The Cougars won 5-0, 9-2 to improve to 21-7.

Garrett McIlhenney had three hits and drove in two runs and Derrick Vosburg had two hits in the opener.

David McCurry scattered six hits over seven innings to earn the complete-game win.

Austin Miles had two hits and three RBI in the nightcap and Vosburg, Sean Boylan and Brady Madden all had two hits.

Isaac Snyder worked five innings to get the win and Tyler Leonard and Matthew Lanzendorfer combined for four scoreless innings of relief.

In game one, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.  McIlhenney led off with a bunt single and moved up on a pair of sacrifices before coming home on Vosburg's infield single.

MU added three runs in the fourth on a two-run triple by McIlhenney and a squeeze bunt by Santino Manganella.

Dante Salerno singled up the middle to open the seventh inning, stole second and scored on Boylan's single to left field.

In game two, Salerno reached on a two-out bunt single, stole two bases and gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead on Boylan's single through the left side.

Miles' two-out double gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.

After FDU-Florham got within 3-2, Misericordia scored three runs on a failed pick-off attempt, wild pitch and squeeze bunt to take a 6-2 lead in the sixth.

Madden drove in a run in the seventh and scored when Liscio was caught stealing to make it 8-2 in the seventh.

The Cougars closed out the scoring on an RBI-single by Shane Hughes in the ninth.
