The Misericordia University baseball team took a doubleheader from Arcadia, 2-1, 13-8, Saturday at Tambur Field.
In the opener,
Dalton Emerich had two hits and drove in both MU runs and
Shane Hughes added two hits.
Brendan Gray scattered four hits over five innings to get the win and
Tyler Leonard struck out four over two innings to earn the save.
In game two,
Brady Madden had three hits, including a grand slam.Â
Dante Salerno had three hits and
Owen VanNewKirk had a double, a homer and three RBI.Â
Sean Boylan had two hits, including a homer.
Tom Jacob worked five innings to earn the win
Joe Valenti tossed four innings to get the save.
After Arcadia went ahead in the top of the third of game one, the Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth.Â
Derrick Vosburg led off with a walk and moved to second on Hughes' infield single. One out later,
Joe Liscio was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, Emerich singled up the middle to drive in a pair of runs.
Arcadia advanced a runner to third base in each of the last three innings, but the Cougars escaped each threat.
Boylan threw the potential tying-run out at home to end the fifth inning with a double-play.
Leonard got a ground out to strand a runner on third in the sixth and got two strikeouts in the seventh to end the game.
After falling behind 4-0 in the nightcap, the Cougars rallied for five runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 10-4 lead.
In the third, Boylan doubled with out and scored on
Dante Salerno's single.Â
Randy Mateo followed with a single and VanNewKirk reached on an error down to load the bases. Madden drilled a grand slam down the left field line to give the Cougars a 5-4 lead.
Emerich coaxed a one-out walk in the fourth and Boylan homered to left center to make it 7-4. Salerno doubled to right center and took third on a wild pitch. Mateo walked and VanNewKirk drove in two runs with a double to right center. Hughes made it 10-4 with a sacrifice fly to center.
Arcadia got three runs back in the fifth and MU tacked on two in the sixth.
VanNewKirk led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer and Madden drew a one-out walk and took second on a wild pitch. Madden moved to third on a ground out and came home on a wild pitch for a 12-7 lead.
Arcadia scored a run in the top of the eighth, but the Cougars answered with one in their half. With one out, Madden doubled down the left field line. He stole third and came home on
Joe Liscio's single up the middle to make it 13-8.
