Pat Luzzi and Robert Wagner celebrated Senior Appreciation Day by tying school records to lift the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team to a 28-13 win over Wilkes in the first round of the MAC Freedom Championships.
Luzzi tied the school single-game record with eight goals and added on assist while Wagner had a pair of goals and tied the single-game mark of seven assists.
TJ Zenobio, Bryan DeGennaro and Nick Torzilli were also recognized before the game.
Kyle Vandenberg had four goals and two assists and Carson Venis added five goals and an assist.
Nick Torzilli had a goal and four assists and Michael Kilgallon had three goals.
Chris Straub made nine saves in relief to earn the win.
Five different players scored as the Cougars jumped out to a 5-1 lead less than three minutes into the game.
Wilkes responded by scoring seven of the next eight goals to take an 8-6 lead after one period.
Misericordia scored nine unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 15-8 lead into halftime.
Wilkes scored to open the second half, but Wagner scored a short-handed goal to ignite an 8-0 run as the Cougars took a 23-9 lead.
Garrett Heidecker won 22-40 face-offs and had a team-high ground balls. Wagner added seven ground balls and Nick Caprio had six.
David Giordano had three goals and an assist and five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Kyle Vandenberg and Michael Shuman both had five ground balls.
The Cougars are 9-3 and will travel to Arcadia in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday at 7:00.
