MU Men's Lacrosse Reaches MAC Freedom Title Game

The lead didn't get away this time.

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as they advanced to the MAC Freedom championship game with a 20-10 win, Wednesday night at Arcadia.

The Cougars used a balanced scoring attack and Bryan DeGennaro made 16 saves to improve to 10-3 and avenge a regular season loss to Arcadia.

Michael Kilgallon had three goals and five assists and was one of four Cougars to score three goals.

Patrick Luzzi scored four goals, including two of MU's seven man-up goals, and added three assists and four ground balls.

Robert Wagner had three goals and two assists and Kyle Vandenberg and David Giordano scored three goals each.

Garrett Heidecker won 20 of 33 face-offs and picked up 11 ground balls.

Heidecker scored off the opening face-off just six seconds into the game and Giordano made 2-0 less than a minute later.

After an Arcadia goal, Giordano, Luzzi and Carson Venis all scored in a four-minute span and the Cougars led 5-1 after one period.

Both teams scored four goals in the second period and Misericordia took a 9-4 lead into halftime.

The Knights pulled within 10-7 with 5:59 to go in the third quarter, but the Cougars rattled off seven straight goals to put the game away.

Kilgallon scored a man-up goal and Wager and Vandenberg scored less than a minute apart to make it 13-7.

Luzzi added a man-up goal with 1:02 to and Giordano put the Cougars up 15-7 with a goal with :05 left in the third quarter.

Luzzi scored another man-up goal to open the fourth quarter and Wagner followed with a goal less than a minute later to give the Cougars a 17-7 lead with 14:08 to play.

Kyle Vandenberg and Ryan Vandenberg both added man-up goals later in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars will visit Stevens, Saturday.
