Mark Ross has resigned as head football coach at Misericordia University.
"Mark has done a remarkable job as our first ever head football coach and we wish him every success in his new position," said
Chuck Edkins, director of athletics. "His student-athletes have lived the mission of Misericordia University and have excelled academically, athletically and socially under his leadership."
Ross spent nine seasons at the helm and led the Cougars to the postseason in 2018 and 2019.
The only head coach in the history of the program, Ross was hired in February 2011 and built the program from the ground up. "Starting a football program at a Mercy institution was a major undertaking and Mark was the right man for the job," said Edkins. "As a result of Mark's efforts, our football program has earned great respect in our campus community, throughout the Middle Atlantic Conference and throughout the region."
Ross was named Middle Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year in 2018 after leading the Cougars to an 8-3 record, including a 7-1 mark in the MAC.
MU set a school-record with eight straight wins and finished tied for second in the MAC while qualifying for a MAC-Centennial Bowl game for the first time.
The Cougars were 5-5 in 2019 and made their second consecutive MAC-Centennial Bowl appearance.
