The Misericordia University women's volleyball extended its win streak to five with a tri-match sweep of Keystone and Farmingdale, Saturday on Doc Mould Court.
Misericordia took down Keystone, 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-19) and Farmingdale, 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-23).
Against Keystone,
Faith Merritt and
Fiona Pyfer both finished with four digs and totaled 10 and nine kills, respectively.
Jessica Oltman has seven kills while
Adele Decker recorded 12 digs, an ace and two kills.
Pyfer added 13 kills against Farmingdale while
Sophie Winter and
Lena Eldrenkamp added six each and all three players had four blocks.
Annika Massa had 30 assists and four aces and
Jessica Cleveland had a team-high 17 digs.
Misericordia found their stride early in the opener as they started on a 9-0 run. During the spurt,
Alexa Monro recorded her 137
th career service ace to move into the top-10 in school history. Up 18-9, the Cougars finished the set on a 7-0 run, including an ace and three assists from Massa.Winter she delivered an ace for the clinching point.
MU kept the momentum up for set number two, starting 8-2. Massa had two assists, an ace and a block during the Cougars hot start. Delany Boyd served for a six-point Cougar run and recorded two aces. Boyd had the kill for Misericordia's 25
th, on an assist from
Jessica Cleveland.
A slow start put MU down 9-7 in the third set, but Oltman had two kills to tie the game. Later in the set, the Cougars went on a five-point run behind three
Jessica Cleveland service aces.
Adele Decker had kills for MU's 24
th and 25
th point.
In the nightcap, the Cougars had an aggressive start behind Pyfer's two kills and Massa's three aces to take a 7-1 lead.
Alexis Hendrickson recorded three consecutive aces to put MU up 12-5.
In the second set, a massive
Lena Eldrenkamp block shifted the momentum and broke a 17-17 tie.Winter accounted for four of the Cougars last six points, including the set sealing kill.
Down 10-4 in the third set, Merritt stepped to the service line after timeout and and sparked a six-point run to tie the set. Trailing 22-19, MU scored three straight points after a timeout. Tied 23-23, Pyfer and
Sadie Stockslager sealed the win with back-to-back kills.
The Cougars will return to conference play at Wilkes University, Tuesday at 7:00.
