The Misericordia University men's soccer team opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a 2-0 Homecoming win over Arcadia, Saturday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Anthony Yarabinee and
Max Gariano scored seven minutes apart in the second half as the Cougars improved to 6-1-3 overall.
Andrew Daubenspeck made one save to record the shutout.
Off a give-and-go with Gariano on right sideline,
Justin Yarabinee dribbled in from right side and played a ball in front where
Anthony Yarabinee slotted a shot past a sliding keeper inside left post for a 1-0 lead at 59:58.
The Cougars added an insurance goal when
Patrick Holton served a ball from the right flank and Gariano' s strike from 10 yards deflected off the keeper and under the crossbar at 66:11.
Gariano nearly got the Cougars on the board in the ninth minute.
A Misericordia free kick was headed out of the box to the right flank where it was played back in and flicked to Gariano on the left side of the box, but his strike hit the left post at 8:47.
Six minutes later
Anthony Yarabinee served a ball inside the box from the left flank to Gariano, but his header from six yards out went over the bar.
The Cougars threatened again in the 23
rd minute when the Arcadia keeper came off his line to play a free kick.Â
Justin Yarabinee collected the loose ball, but his shot near the left post was blocked by an Arcadia defender.
MU held a 12-6 advantage in shots, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Cougars will host Swarthmore, Tuesday at 7:00.
