MU Volleyball Splits Regular Season Finale

The Misericordia University women's volleyball team ended the regular season with a split of tri-match with Pratt and Kean in Union, NJ, Saturday.

MU took the opener against Pratt, 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 25-17) and dropped the nightcap to Kean, 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 24-26, 14-25).

Rachel LoFaso led the Cougars with 16 kills against Pratt while Adel Decker added 10 kills and three aces.

Annika Massa had 39 assists and 10 aces and Delaney Boyd had 26 digs.

Massa had three aces as the Cougars took a quick 6-0 lead and never trailed in the first set against Pratt.

The Cannoneers held off a late MU rally, including three straight kills from LoFaso, to take the second set.

LoFaso had two kills and a block as the Cougars closed the third set on a 9-1 run.

Massa had two more aces as the Cougars rallied from a 13-12 deficit with an 8-0 run to take control of the finale.

Against Kean, Faith Merritt had 11 kills and four aces and Fiona Pyfer had 11 kills and two aces.

Jess Schuda had 35 assists.

Kean used a 10-1 spurt to overcome a 12-7 deficit to win the first set.

Pyfer had two kills to help MU build a 21-13 lead in the second set and Merritt closed it out with back-to-back kills.

Sophie Winter and Pyfer sandwiched kills around an ace from Merritt to give MU its first lead in the third set, 24-23, but Kean answered with three straight points to win.

Kean broke open a one-point game with seven straight points to take an 18-11 lead in the finale.

The Cougars are 22-9 and will visit Arcadia in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday at 7:00.
