Delfino's Triple-Double Lifts MU Women

A fourth-quarter rally and a triple-double from Gianna Delfino lifted the Misericordia women's basketball team to a 65-60 win at New Paltz, Saturday.

Delfino scored 25 points on 8-16 shooting, grabbed 13 boards and had 11 steals for the first MU triple-double since 2013. She also added a team-high five assists and four blocks.

Melina Santacroce recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Alyssa Bondi scored eight points and Jordan Postiglione came up with three steals.

The Cougars could not find a rhythm offensively until late in the first quarter when Skylar Dowling scored two buckets during an 8-0 run.

A Santacroce layup with a minute to go in the quarter got MU within one.

Misericordia couldn't overcome the second-quarter blues, getting outscored 14-9. A three-pointer from Jocelyn Grosch was the only field goal of the quarter for the Cougars.

MU trailed by 13 in the third quarter, but went on a 9-0 run behind a Morgan Haefele three and a Bondi layup.

Delfino hit a three for the first bucket of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to four.

Bondi added a three to get MU within one score.

A Santacroce layup with five minutes to go gave the Cougars their first lead of the afternoon.

Santacroce scored on the next possession off a Delfino dime to extend the lead to three.

Delfino provided a three with 3:30 to go to make it a two-score game.

Tied 60-60 with 30 seconds left, Delfino added a layup from Grosch to hand MU a late lead.

Delfino came up with a steal in transition and scored on the fastbreak opportunity to make the score 64-60.

Misericordia shot 6-18 from downtown and had 15 bench points.

MU will host Keystone, Tuesday at 6:00.
