Morgan Haefele scored 23 points to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 71-56 win over Susquehanna in the championship game of the National Beef Tournament, Sunday.
Haefele was 5-11 from three-point range as the Cougars improved to 5-0.
Melina Santacroce had 12 points and seven rebounds and Gianna Delfino added 12 points and five steals.
Delfino opened the game with a three-pointer and Santacroce made a foul shot for an early 4-0 lead.
Susquehanna responded with eight straight points, but Haefele and Sklyar Dowling followed with baskets to tie the score, 8-8.
The Riverhawks led 12-10 after the first quarter and the teams traded the lead throughout the second quarter until Jocelyn Grosch scored four points in the final 70 seconds to give MU a 30-29 halftime lead.
Trailing 52-51 early in the fourth quarter, the Cougars closed the game on a 20-4 run over the final 8:51.
Haefele scored seven straight points to give MU a 59-52 lead with 6:24 to play.
Alyssa Bondi scored six of her nine points over the final 3:37 to put the game out of reach.
Misericordia will host King's in their MAC Freedom opener, Sunday.
