The Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 6-0 with a 90-60 win over King's in their MAC Freedom opener, Sunday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
Alyssa Bondi scored a game-high 17 points to lead four players in double figures and all 13 players scored for MU.
Meaghan McCaffrey added 14 points and
Morgan Haefele and
Melina Santacroce had 10 points each.
McCaffrey and Haefele had a team-high seven rebounds and Haefele added four assists and three steals.
The Cougars raced out to a 12-0 lead and extended the margin to 22-5 after one quarter.
Bondi got a shooter's role on a short jumper to open the scoring and Santacroce made it 4-0 on a putback.
Haefele drove the right baseline to make it 6-0 and Santacroce followed with a pair of free throws for an 8-0 lead.
Haefele buried a long jumper from the left corner and added a fastbreak layup to give MU a 12-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
King's scored its first bucket with 4:00 to play and the Cougars answered with three straight baskets.
After a King's free throw, McCaffrey made a spinning layup in front and Bondi sank a pull-up jumper from the left wing.
The Cougars led 22-5 after King's scored at buzzer to end the quarter.
Skylar Bianchi and
Elizabeth Fasti sandwiched buckets around a pair of three-pointers by
Skylar Dowling to extend the Cougars lead to 32-7 in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
Jocelyn Grosch had a layup to close the half to give MU a 46-13 lead.
Bianchi had two baskets in the third quarter as Misericordia stretched its lead to 70-21.
Chloe Captoni Jordan Postiglione,
Katie Ryan and
Becca Franklin all got in the scoring column in the fourth quarter to provide the final margin.
Misericordia will host SUNY-Cobleskill, Wednesday.
