The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped a tough 50-44 decision to Gettysburg, Wednesday afternoon in Puerto Rico.
Alyssa Bondi led the Cougars with 15 points while
Gianna Delfino had 12 rebounds.Â
Melina Santacroce had seven points and nine rebounds and
Morgan Haefele added five points and eight rebounds.
The Cougars led 36-34 after three periods and were tied, 40-40, with less than five minutes remaining. Gettysburg scored five straight points to take 45-40 lead.
Bondi's three-pointer gave MU an early 3-2 lead, but the Bullets rallied to take a 10-8 lead after one period
MU used a 10-5 run over the final three minutes of the second quarter to take a 20-15 halftime lead.
Bondi and
Elizabeth Fasti both made three-pointers and Delfino made a jumper in the lane with 1:36 to go. Santacroce added a short jumper with 10 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Cougars a 25-20 lead.
Haefele made two free throws and Santacroce followed with a layup as the Cougars took their biggest lead of the game, 33-24, with 3:48 left in the third quarter.
Haefele added a three-pointer with a minute remaining, but Gettysburg answered with a three-pointer to get within 36-34 after three periods.
Misericordia will return to MAC Freedom action when they host Arcadia, January 4.
