The Misericordia University men's basketball team's second-half rally came up just short in an 84-82 loss to St. John Fisher in the first round of the Go 4 the Goal Tournament at Medgar Evers College, Thursday.
MU trailed 78-64 with 6:46 to play and pulled within a point, 83-82, with one minute remaining.
Kevin Lazdowsky scored 21 points to lead five Cougars in double figures
Nate Kreitzer and
Nick Hornung had 15 points each.Â
Joseph Baldachino added 11 points and
Derek Smith had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Lazdowsky and Kreitzer combined for seven free throws and Baldachino added a three-pointer as the Cougars cut the deficit to 81-74 with 2:46 left.
Kreitzer and Lazdowsky made back-to-back three-pointers to make it a one-possession game, 83-80, with 1:45 to go.
Baldachino made a layup with one minute remaining, but St. John Fisher added a free throw in the closing seconds for the final margin.
Misericordia will face the loser of SUNY-Canton/Medgar Evers in the consolation game, Friday at 1:00.
