Joseph Baldachino and
Nick Hornung both had double-doubles to lead the Misericordia University men's basketball team to an 86-81 win over Medgar Evers College in the consolation game of Go 4 the Goal Tournament, Friday afternoon in Brooklyn.
Baldachino scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Hornung added 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Derek Smith had 16 points and
Nick Prociak added 12.
Nate Kreitzer had nine points and seven assists and R.J. Weise had 10 rebounds.
Kreitzer hit a three-pointer to ignite an 11-0 run as Misericordia rallied from a 72-61 deficit with 8:05 to play.
Hornung made two free throws and Baldachino hit back-to-back three-pointers as the Cougars pulled even, 72-72, with 6:09 to go.
The teams traded buckets over the next four minutes before Hornung's jumper put MU in front, 79-77, with 2:15 remaining.
Kreitzer, Baldachino, Smith and Hornung combined for seven free throws over the final 1:48 to seal the win.
Smith made three three-pointers in the opening minutes as the Cougars jumped out to a 12-2 lead less than three minutes into the game.
Medgar Evers answered with a 15-2 run to take a 17-14 lead, but Baldachino and
Dewin Concepcion both hit three-pointers to a key a 12-0 spurt to MU back in front, 26-17.
Medgar Evers eventually took a 42-40 lead at halftime.
Misericordia will return to MAC Freedom action when the Cougars host Arcadia, Wednesday.
