MU Men Erupt for 98 Points in Win Over Moravian

The Misericordia University men's basketball team scored a season-high 98 points in a wire-to-wire to win over Moravian, Wednesday night on Dr. Michael Mould Court.

Nate Kreitzer led six Cougars in double figures with 21 points and Nick Prociak added 17 points and six rebounds.

Derek Smith scored 14 points and Joseph Baldachino and Kevin Lazdowsky added 12 points each.

Matthew Marchetti had 11 points for MU as the Cougars improved to 5-3.

Lazdowsky's driving layup beat the shot clock on the opening possession and the Cougars never relinquished the lead.

Kreitzer drained a pair of three pointers to give MU and early 8-3 advantage.

Kreitzer hit a three-pointer from the top of the key for a 19-12 lead with 14:06 to play and Smith drilled a long three from the right win shortly after entering the game to make it 22-14.

R.J. Weise drilled a three-pointer from the top off the key off a nice feed from Will Anozie as the Cougars stretched the lead to 49-37 with 2:55 to play in the first half.

Moravian cut the margin to 49-44, but Wiese hit a pull-up jumper in the lane to end the first half with MU up, 51-44.

Leading 68-64 midway through the second half, Smith buried a long three from the left wing and Kreitzer hit three free throws to make it 74-64.

Marchetti hit back-to-back three-pointers from the right corner to give MU an 80-69 lead with 6:20 to go.

Following a Moravian bucket, Marchetti sank two free throws and Smith drilled a three from the right corner to give the Cougars an 85-71 lead with 5:00 remaining.

Baldachino got a nice roll on a short jumper from the right baseline to make it 90-78 and the Cougars pulled away over the final three minutes.

MU will return to MAC Freedom play at DeSales, Saturday.
