Melina Santacroce had a double-double to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 56-51 come-from-behind win over Stevens, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
Santacroce had 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Cougars erased a 16-point deficit.
Alyssa Bondi added 12 points and
Morgan Haefele had 10 points and seven assists.
Down 29-17 at halftime, the Cougars turned up the defensive pressure and forced nine turnovers in the third quarter to close within 41-39.
Bondi made a driving layup early in the third quarter and
Morgan Haefele hit a three-pointer off a screen from the left wing to ignite a 13-2 run.
Gianna Delfino scored a off a feed from Haefele to get within 35-25 and the pair hooked up a long pass off a steal to cut the margin to 35-29 with 5:19 to play in the third quarter.
Santacroce scored off a nice bounce pass from Delfino and Bondi scored on a back-door layup on the left baseline to make it 37-33 with 3:55 to go.
Haefele drove the right side of the lane for a bucket and
Jordan Postiglione made a pair of free throws to get within 41-39 in the final minute of the period.
Delfino made two free throws early in the fourth quarter to put MU in front for the first time since the first quarter, 42-41.
Bondi hit a three-pointer from the right win to put the Cougars ahead for good and Santacroce followed with a layup to make it 47-43 with 6:11 to go.
MU won for the third straight game to improve to 13-10.
