The Misericordia University baseball team defeated Sewanee, 10-2, Thursday afternoon in Pot Charlotte, FL.
Brendan Gray had two hits and drove in two runs and
Brady Madden and
Derrick Vosburg both added two hits and an RBI.
Owen VanNewkirk had a hit and two RBI.
David McCurry struck out 12 over seven shutout innings to earn the win while Dante Viola and Jason Dettman combined for five strikeouts over the final two innings.
The Cougars broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fourth. VanNewkirk had a bases-loaded double to give MU a 2-0 lead and Gray had a two-run single.
MU took advantage of a pair of errors to plate three runs in the fifth. Madden had an RBI-double and Vosburg singled in a run to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
McIlhenney singled in a run in the sixth and
Austin Miles had an RBI-double in the seventh.
MU will conclude its Florida trip against Wittenberg, Friday.
