Montclair State used a big third quarter to hand the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team its first loss of the season, 18-16, Wednesday.

The Red Hawks scored four straight goals late in third quarter to overcome a 12-10 deficit.

Jared Pelliccione scored five goals to lead MU and Robert Wagner had two goals and four assists.

Kyle Vandenburg scored three goals and Carson Venis and Michael Kilgallon had two goals and an assist each.

Don Conway had five ground balls and Spencer Sundeberg had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Kyle Vandenberg had three ground balls and Wagner had four caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the first period, Wagner and Vandenberg scored less than a minute apart to pull MU even.

Following a Montclair goal, Pelliccione and Wagner in 70-second span to give MU a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Pelliccione scored two of MU's five goals in the second quarter as the Cougars took a 9-8 halftime lead.

After Montclair scored to open the third quarter, Kilgallon and Trey Stasse scored just 34 seconds apart to MU back in front.

Pelliccione made it 12-10 with 9:06 to go in the third period, but the Red Hawks scored four straight goals to take a 14-12 lead into the final period.

The Cougars will host Lebanon Valley, Saturday at 1:00.
