The Misericordia University baseball team used two solid pitching performances to complete their MAC Freedom series sweep of Wilkes, 2-1, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Tambur Field.
David McCurry allowed just thee hits and one unearned run in a 2-1 win the opener.Â
Connor Maryniak struck out two in the seventh to earn a save for the second straight day.
Isaac Snyder struck out five and scattered six hits in a complete game 3-0 win in the nightcap.
Brendan Gray had two hits to lead Misericordia in the opener.
Garrett McIlhenney had two hits in the nightcap and
Brady Madden had an RBI-single for MU.Â
In the opener, Wilkes used two infield singles and an error to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Joe Comins led off the bottom of the second inning with a single to left center, stole second and scored the tying run on
Brendan Gray's single to center.
Comins was part of the game-winning rally in the sixth inning as he drew a lead-off walk. Pinch-runner
Jack Regenye moved up on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a ground out before coming home on an infield error.
After allowing a lead-off walk in the top of the seventh, Maryniak got two strikeouts and a line out to left field to close out the game.
In the nightcap, the Cougars took advantage of two Wilkes errors to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.Â
MU took advantage of another misplay to add an insurance run in the sixth.
McIlhenney singled to right and moved to second on an error to open the frame. Following a sacrifice bunt, Madden rolled a single through the drawn-in infield to make it 3-0.
The Cougars are 10-6 and 4-0 in the MAC Freedom.
