MU Baseball Rallies to Down Ohio Wesleyan

The Misericordia University baseball team used a big inning and solid relief pitching to down Ohio Wesleyan, 9-4, Wednesday in Port Charlotte, Florida.

MU scored eight runs in the fifth inning to overcome an early 4-0 deficit and Max Oliver tossed 5.2 shutout innings of relief to pick up the win.

Tommy Tracey came on in the ninth to record the final two outs.

Santino Manganella had two hits and four RBI and Owen VanNewkirk and Austin Miles both had three hits.

After Ohio Wesleyan scored four times in the top of the third inning, the Cougars got one back in the fourth when Miles reached on an error to open the frame and scored on Connor Maryniak's double down the left field line.

The Cougars took advantage of four errors and Manganella had a two-run single as part of an eight-run rally to take a 9-4 lead after five innings.

Garrett McIlhenny had an RBI-double and Manganella followed with a two-run double to cap a four-run eighth as the Cougars increased their lead to 13-4.

The Cougars will face Sewanee, Thursday at 4:00.
