The Misericordia University baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 10-9, 13-inning loss at Scranton, Monday.
After leading 6-0, the Cougars had to rally for three runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings.
Garrett McIlhenney had two hits for MU and
Santino Manganella had a two-run double.
Max Oliver scattered seven hits over five shutout innings and
Justin Calvarese struck out four in four scoreless innings of relief.
MU took a 1-0 in the top of the third when Manganella was the first of seven Cougars to reach via HBP in the game.Â
Connor Maryniak was plunked as well and both runners moved up on a throwing error before McIlhenney's sacrifice fly brought Manganella home.
Brady Madden singled to lead off the sixth and later scored on
Austin Miles' single to center. Manganella's double down the right field line made it 4-0.
A walk and an infield single by McIlhenney loaded the bases before
Joe Comins walked to force in a run. Madden was hit by a pitch in his second appearance of the inning to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead.
The Royals got three runs back in the sixth and used a grand slam to take a 9-6 lead in the eighth.
The Cougars answered with three runs without a hit in the top of the ninth to force extra innings.
Pinch-hitter
Owen VanNewkirk and Miles were hit by pitch around a walk by
Brock Bollinger to load the bases.
An infield error allowed two runs to score and Maryniak drove in the tying with a foul pop down the right field line.
Scranton scored the winning run on a double error in the bottom of the 13
th.
MU will open a MAC Freedom series with King's, Wednesday at Tambur Field.
